Great personal style is not just about what you wear when you go out. The most stylish guys I know always look good no matter what the setting; they know how to adapt their look to their surroundings. Marvin Macalino has mastered the art of adaptation and for that reason looks spectacular regardless of what he wears.

At only 23 years of age, Marvin has found a way to always keep his look fresh. He takes note of the trends season to season and adapts them to his personal style aesthetic. As a matter of fact, when I met Marvin he had jet black hair and has since changed to blonde as he continuously innovates his look. Without further ado, meet Marvin Macalino, the Style Chameleon.

Describe your style?

It’s tough for me to describe my style. It’s always changing depending on what mood I’m in, or what ‘style’ I like for that period of time. For example, I use to wear a suit almost everyday, no matter where I was going. But for the past while I’ve been trying to be more versatile with my looks and mixing in some casual outfits here and there.  However, if I were to describe my style, at the moment, I would say, first of all, that I have two Styles. When I’m dressed up, very clean cut and Classic and when I’m more dressed down and casual, my style is modern minimalistic… For now, at least.

What got you into fashion in the first place?

To be honest, I’ve always been into fashion. Maybe when I was younger I wasn’t into the most fashion forward, avant-garde and couture stuff, but I still liked putting together a well thought out outfit. I would say I really took off when started modelling and working at a bespoke boutique. Fashion is without a doubt, art. But I think that was when I stopped looking at fashion as just putting outfits together and being well dressed and started looking at it as a possible career path for me.

What is your favorite item in your wardrobe?

My favorite item in my wardrobe would have to be…. my ox blood leather jacket from All Saints. I love because it’s such a unique color and style, and not every guy would have the guts to wear it. But it’s my favorite because it’s so versatile and can be worn many different ways, and in any season.

You feel best when wearing…?

I feel best when wearing something that no one else is! I like being unique but still well put together. I like turning heads whenever I’m going out. If it were to be in one particular outfit, I would have to say I feel most comfortable in a well tailored suit, probably double breasted.

How do you approach getting dressed every day?

When I’m getting ready, I first look at the weather for the day to see what I can and cannot wear, then think of what I have planned and then I’ll decide what look I’m going to go for that day. But in reality, I’m ALL about style over function! While I’m in the shower, I’ll go through my wardrobe in my head and think of what pieces I want to wear. Lastly I will style my hair accordingly to finish off my look.

Sartorial pet peeve.

There are so many  sartorial pet peeves of mine. One that just kills me is when someone is dressed up in formal attire, like a dress shirt and dress pants, and pairs it with clunky basketball shoe, and probably not the nicest or cleanest ones either. If you are going to try to dress up in a more classy look, don’t get lazy and just finish the look properly!

Favorite brand or retailer?

This is not even fair… I would have  to say anything Parisian really. I love brands like Balmain, Saint Laurent and Damir Doma. Their aesthetics are all so unique and distinct, you can notice any of their pieces from miles away because there is nothing like them.
