Meet Mr. Cavaliere: Rob Brunette

Meet Mr. Cavaliere: Rob Brunette

Our Illustrator talks about his travel filled childhood and why he loves a good printed “party” shirt.

. . . . .

What do you do outside of Mr. Cavaliere?

Outside of Mr. Cavaliere, I work at an animation studio called Brown Bag Films. Recently, I worked as a Character Designer on the Netflix series The Magic School Bus: Rides Again.

What’s your background and where were you born?

My father is French Canadian and my mom is Jamaican. I was born in Brampton, but I grew up in a small town called Caledon East.

How would you describe your style?

For the most part, I wear pieces based on practicality. I like clothes that will last me a couple seasons. I am all about a fun party shirt. I have a soft spot for anything bright and colourful, with some sort of floral or Hawaiian design.

Who is your Style Icon?

My style icon is definitely John Lasseter

One thing people may not know about you?

Throughout my childhood, my parents took my siblings and myself all over the world. They decided early on that they would spend their money on experiences with us, instead of buying us things. I have been lucky enough to travel to every continent except Antarctica (which my Dad is still planning on doing).

What are the top 3 places on your bucket list?

India has been number one for many years; I am going at the end of November.

I would also love to see Jordan and the Middle East. Ever since watching Indiana Jones, I’ve always wanted to visit Petra. As well, I really want to spend some time in the northern parts of Canada, up in the Tundra. That landscape and wildlife has always interested me.

If you had to eat one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?

My grandmother’s oxtail is my favourite meal. I think I’d be okay with eating that for the rest of my life.

If you could hang out with one person dead or alive, who would it be?

I’d love to get some painting lessons from one of my favourite artists, Edward Hopper or John Singer Sargent.

What are your 3 favorite Instagram accounts?

Three of my favourite Instagram accounts are:

@artstationhq – a showcase platform for entertainment artists

@ryanmeinerding_art – head of visual development at Marvel studios

@daggersnakes – hilarious drawings of snakes and daggers

Lastly, what type of content can we look forward to seeing from you?

Illustrations from my studio and freelance work, as well as any other cool art-related things I am up to.
