Like many young boys, I grew up easily influenced by heroes in movies. I think back on watching various leading men save the day and get the girl; I always remember questioning what it would be like to be just like them. With that being said, there was a series of films that I idolized in particular. Those were James Bond films.
Growing up in the 90’s, my version of James Bond was played by none other than Pierce Brosnan. Pierce was well spoken, immaculately dressed, and he always seemed to save the day without breaking a sweat. With his cool, calm, and collected demeanour that was different than other film stars at the time, he slowly became the epitome of the man I wanted to be when I grew up.
When I think of James Bond, I immediately envision a man in a tuxedo. I think for many of us Bond fans, his signature look was Bond’s Black Tie attire. For that reason, and with holiday parties just around the corner, I thought it was the perfect time to explore this iconic look. With help from our friends at EXPRESS, we compiled a list of a 3 easy steps to have you looking like 007 himself.
1. Black Tie means Bow Tie
Black Tie events are typically the most formal types of events to attend. When dressing for these kinds of parties, it is imperative to wear a tuxedo or a dinner jacket, a white shirt, and a black bow tie. Think Daniel Craig at the Blackjack table in Casino Royale!
2. Go for Velvet
Velvet is one of the most luxurious fabrics around. Founded in Egypt in 2000 BC, velvet was woven into robes for the powerful and wealthy. Fast forward to 1963, and a fresh-faced Sean Connery dons the fabric in the classic Bond film, From Russia With Love. From that day forward, velvet forever becomes a staple in a man’s evening wear.
For this look, we decided to use the black velvet jacket from EXPRESS. It comes with peak satin lapels and is tailored to the body.
3. Make it your own
Adding some personality to your look is something we here at Mr. Cavaliere try to emphasize to our readers. There is nothing worse than seeing a guy donning an outfit that was pulled right off of a mannequin. For this reason, we decided to add a pin-dotted shirt to our look, to throw in some flair and character. Owning his look was something that every Bond executed very well.
