“Styling with Stan”: Bring your grey suit back to life

If there is one item that I think ever guy should have, it’s a well tailored grey suit. It’s versatile for any occasion, wearable in all 4 seasons, and unlike a black suit, compliments navy and brown tones like no other. Due to its reliability we sometimes neglect our grey suit and often view it as a one dimensional clothing item. For this reason I put together a look to bring your grey 2 piece back to life!

The easiest way to give any outfit some life is through colour! With that being said, be wary of what is colourful in your look. Always remember never to opt for a bright, solid coloured shirt! Going for coloured shirts that are muted or have other colours mixed in, like the red plaid shirt on Stan have just the right amount of pop while still being versatile. The second way to add life to your grey suit is through adding print. Print mixing can sometimes be a daunting move, but once you understand the key factors it’s really quite simple. Picking up a neutral colour from the most dominant print is one factor. In this look it would be the navy and white going through the red plaid shirt. For this reason I decided that this navy silk polka dotted tie would be neutral enough to compliment, but added its own unique component.

The third way to add a dapper appeal to your grey suit is to incorporate accessories. In this look I added a blue silk paisley pocket square and a silver tie bar. Although small, they add another interesting dimension to an already solid look.
