Craig Hammond, in my opinion, is one of the most stylish guys out there. Craig is from a small town called Suffolk, UK that is close to the English countryside but is only an hour from London. He currently works for a large corporate company in the financial services sector but is also the European creative director at BespokeUnit.com.
The way I got in touch with Craig was quite unique. We mutually appreciated each other’s style on Instagram and slowly got in contact. As we got to know each other, Craig told me that MrCavaliere.com had a huge impact on his appearance and how my blog inspired him to take an interest in the fashion industry. With this flattering news, and Craig’s impeccable eye for style, it was only a matter of time until I convinced him to do a Style Profile. With that being said, meet Craig Hammond:
Describe your style
I’d probably say modern vintage. I love the vintage look but don’t want to dress like I’ve stepped off a time machine, I’m not a purist when it comes to vintage and will happily mix vintage pieces. I like to think I have a classic look, but with a twist. It’s sometimes more vintage, sometimes more preppy.
What got you into fashion in the first place?
I’ve always had a passing interest in fashion and dressed fashionably. A couple of years ago I was searching the Internet for something or other (I can’t recall now exactly what it was) and I discovered MrCavaliere.com. After reading a few articles, it really sparked my interest and you inspired me to look deeper into my own style and start to refine it. If it wasn’t for you Jonathan and your blog, I certainly would not be doing what I do now.
Favorite item in your wardrobe
I have a waistcoat from H&M that I wear a lot, it seems to go with everything, it’s a brown wool and I wear it with a shirt and tie to work and also with jeans at the weekend. It was well worth the £20 I paid for it. It appears a lot in my Instagram feed!
You feel your best when wearing..
Blue. I love blue as you can probably see from my Instagram and blog. It’s very classic and is easy to make look smart. A blue shirt with navy chinos looks smart as it is, even if worn casually with a pair of converse trainers but add a pair of brogues, a tie and a blazer and your ready for anything: a date, a wedding, a party. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a massive fan of colour but blue is my absolute favorite.
How do you approach getting dressed every day?
Sometimes I plan ahead and chose an outfit the night before. I’ll often think of one item, say a shirt or a pair of shoes that I want to wear and then add to it. That tie goes well, that blazer matches, the colour of those socks is the same as the tie etc. Other times, I’ll just get up and grab what’s handy. Sometimes I’m more daring than others, wearing pattern with pattern or floral with polka dot, other times I play it safer. It just depends on my mood.
Your sartorial pet peeve
Urgghhhhh, so many! Sportswear as daywear! Most people who wear sportswear have never seen the inside of a gym. It’s frustrating. I also hate an ill fitting grey suit, one that bunches at the ankles because the trousers are too long. Please only buy it if actually fits you! Fit is everything!
Favorite brand or retailer
I buy a lot from Next. I think they have it right when it comes to menswear. They do the basics very well and they add to this with individual more ‘out there’ pieces: patterned shirts, brightly coloured chinos, great blazers and accessories. They’re not ‘on the edge’ of fashion though, but it’s appropriate for my age and my style.
Who or where do you get your style inspiration?
Initially MrCavaliere.com as I mentioned earlier. Now mainly Instagram, there are a lot of very well dressed guys out there who are willing to share their looks with the world. Individuality inspired me greatly. I see outfits every day that I’d like to wear. I also read GQ and Esquire but there’s much out there to be inspired by. Out of all the fashion guys though, Mr. Nick Wooster wins hands down. What a guy.
