Spring/Summer 2014 Trends: Grown-up Sweatpants

If you are an avid reader of the blog and have seen my What Not to Wear – Mr. Cavaliere Edition post, you know I am not a fan of wearing sweatpants outside of sports! But there is a new type of these cotton comfy pants that might have slightly changed my perspective.

Before you go out and pick up as many joggers as possible take this into account: these new sweatpants are not your typical baggy loungers. This new version has a slim silhouette, a fitted cuff, and a slightly lower crotch. What I find the most interesting though, is how many different prints and styles they come in.

With the slow return of 90’s inspired trends, brands like Zanerobe and Billionaire Boys Club have taken to designing some of the coolest MC Hammer inspired streetwear around.  Even denim giants Diesel have gotten on the bandwagon by creating a jean and track pant blend called Jogg Jeans!

Celebrities have also taken to the “Harlem pant” style include names like Mark Ronson, Drake, and Jaden Smith. Even rapper-turned-designer Kanye West made a leather version and featured them in his latest collaboration with A.P.C.

If you want to test the trend out for yourself try picking up a pair like the examples above from Billionaire boys club. The “Higgins” pant, in my opinion, is the perfect cross between casual chino and cotton sweatpant since they’re made of a stretch cotton fabric for extra comfort. Pair them with a t-shirt and a cardigan and your ready for any casual setting!

Yours truly,
