If you haven’t already heard, prints are the biggest thing in menswear at the moment. For the past couple of seasons designers, retailers, bloggers, and magazines have all raved about the uprising of bold patterns and now it’s finally flooding onto the streets! This new flock of patterns isn’t the plaids, pinstripes, and checks we’re used to seeing, but is now all about polka dots, paisleys, and other bold geometric prints. Whether they’re on pants, shirts, ties, or suits, these new prints have come into menswear and are here to stay.
With that being said not all of us are at that level to just pull off a paisley blazer or a polka dotted pant, so for that reason I asked my good friend Anthony Valentini to help me put together 2 looks using one of the easiest printed items you can wear, a shirt.
If you have visited my image consulting and personal shopping site at JonathanCavaliere.com, you have probably seen Anthony’s picture before! He’s one of my best dressed clients and a great friend of mine. Anthony doesn’t shy away from the boldest trends in menswear and, as much as I’m the one styling him, he challenges me to always think outside of the box.
For this outfit I built the look around his white polka dotted button down collared dress shirt. Since the dots are quite neutral, I was able to add pieces that would both compliment the shirt as well as make a statement. I decided to put together a powder blue herringbone 6 button double breasted blazer, a navy knit horizontal striped tie, a white pin dotted pocket square, indigo blue denim, cobalt blue brogues with a baby blue contrast sole, and tortoise shell aviator sunglasses.
This outfit, like many pastel colored spring/summer pieces, is strictly for day events. Wear this look to a summer wedding, a garden party or swap out the blazer for a darker option to make it perfect for a night out! This look is a great mix of Italian yacht club meets Southern American Prep, 2 of my favourite gentlemen-like styles.
