One of the best things you can do for your mind and body is get outside. Whether it’s the clean air nature uniquely provides or the excitement of what a hike may have in store, there is a definite connection between our happiness and the outdoors.
I think deep down inside every single one of us lies a burning desire to explore the unknown. For that reason we teamed up with Mountain Equipment Co-op to show you how to explore the wilderness while still looking stylish. Who said fashion and function don’t mix!
For this adventure I wanted to incorporate items that were true to my style aesthetic, but didn’t compromise their utilitarian features. For this reason I decided to pair this navy “live simply” trucker hat, a grey cotton multi pocketed functional blazer, a basic grey henley, beige water proof shorts, Uneek sandals from Keen footwear, and this bold orange camping backpack. Not only was this look ready for the elements, but it wouldn’t look at all out of place in a city landscape.
Lastly, I want to tell you about an initiative and event that our friends at Mountain Equipment Co-op have been working on. MEC Outdoor Nation is bringing together hundreds of young Canadians in Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto and giving them the space to develop new and unexpected projects with the purpose of getting young adults outside on their own terms. On June 27 and 28, MEC is launching Toronto’s first-ever MEC Outdoor Nation Weekend at the Evergreen Brickworks. At MEC Outdoor Nation Weekend, 150 hand-selected young adults camp outside and celebrate the outdoors. During the weekend, MEC will be providing $10,000 in funding for grassroots ideas from Toronto’s young-adult driven projects.
